How To Protect Your Home From Allergies

An allergy is a condition in which your body's immune system reacts abnormally to a foreign substance to which it has become hypersensitive.

An allergy is a condition in which your body’s immune system reacts abnormally to a foreign substance to which it has become hypersensitive.

There are several types of allergies, but the most common are:

Food allergies: These are unpleasant reactions of the immune system after eating a certain meal. They can be mild or severe. In some cases, allergies that developed in childhood can reoccur in adulthood.

Skin allergies: Skin allergies are sometimes caused by contact with substances such as soaps, fragrances, cosmetics,or jewelry that can trigger or irritate an allergic reaction. This allergy may show up as a skin rash.

Drug allergies: These are caused by reactions to medications. Symptoms may manifest as a rash, hives, swelling, shortness of breath, puffiness, watery eyes, fever or wheezing.

Rhinitis: an allergic reaction to allergens in the air such as pollen, dust mites, fumes, odors, smoke and others. These then cause itchy, red and watery eyes, sneezing, runny nose and other similar symptoms.

If you are prone to allergies, as described above, you can protect your home from allergies by taking the following measures.

Keep a record of what you do, eat, and take (medications). This will help you determine when a foreign object in the form of food has entered your system, and also help you determine the cause of your symptoms.

Declutter your space. Take items you rarely use  out of your home or put them in storage. A cluttered room is prone to allergens.

Ventilation: Hot and humid rooms are breeding grounds for mold and dust mites, while a well-ventilated room improves air quality, reducing triggers for allergies and asthma.

Keep your rooms clean at all times. This cannot be stressed enough.

Clean your air conditioners at least once a month. Air conditioners have coils that accumulate dirt and debris. If they are not cleaned regularly, allergens can build up in the duct system and get into the air you breathe every time you turn it on.

Stop smoking. If you want to, get it out of your house.

Get a vacuum cleaner for your carpets if you can not do without one. Carpets are known to trap mold, dirt, and particles, making them a common cause of allergies. Worse, they can make your symptoms worse.

You can prevent fumes, dust mites and pollen from entering your home by keeping doors and windows closed.

Be sure to wash your bedding weekly and keep your bedroom neat and tidy at all times. This will help prevent allergens from accumulating on your bedding, pillows and/or carpets.

Use natural disinfectants such as RIDA disinfectant, a safe, effective and fast-acting herbal blend that protects you from various germs that can cause allergies and infections. It is suitable for cleaning your home, office space and also for washing (laundry, cleaning the washing machine, etc.).
