How To Smash Your New Year Health Goals

If there is anything you must do this year to achieve your set goals, it is to be deliberate about the change you seek. Below are tips to consider if you want to smash your health goals early and good.

Now that the year has begun, what are those health related things you have written as goals and vision for 2022? If there are no strategies identified to achieve them, they would remain at best a goal to be achieved. Trust me, you may have to keep carrying them over, year after year, until you are tired of doing so because they have become a burden to you.

If there is anything you must do this year to achieve your set goals, it is to be deliberate about the change you seek. Below are tips to consider if you want to smash your health goals early and good.

EVALUATE
First, you must evaluate the goals you set last year; were you able to reach the goals? were they realistic? were they too many to smash? The answers you give to these questions above will help you make better and informed decisions for the year in focus.

DEFINE YOUR GOALS
Now, you must define your goals. Your goals must be SMART – Specific Measurable, Achievable Realistic and Time bound. Why do you want to do what you want to do? Which aspect of health do you want to focus on? For instance, “I want to lose 5kg before Easter” is more defined compared to saying “I want to lose weight this year”.

MAKE IT PLAIN
Write your goals down. This cannot be over emphasized, and it is not a cliché either. You may choose to write yours on sticky notes and stick them on places where your eyes will always read them. You might want to use them as a wall paper on your phone(s). Remember our phones are the most gadgets we interact with. So make sure you write your goals down.

GET AN ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER
There is nothing as good as having someone whom you trust to help you stay on track. If you feel telling people about your plan(s) is too much a burden, one person is enough. Having an accountability partner will help give you the needed support, especially through tough times. You may want to hire a coach also, depending on your financial ability.

STAY ON TRACK
Stay focused. When you are overwhelmed and you want to stop half way, remember why you started in the first place. Let your goals always be at the front burner. If you follow the band wagon, you wont last.

Don’t forget to start small. Don’t be under any pressure to do or impress. It’s fine if you are not ready for it yet. When you are, don’t forget to make use of the remove tips. Have yourself a healthy and fit year.
