Water makes up 55 to 65 percent of the average human body. Even though water adds no calories or organic nutrients, It is vital for all known forms of life. A person can live about a month without food, but only about a week without water.
A number of people find it tasking to take in lots of water in its original form. Some say water is tasteless, bland and uninteresting. Nonetheless, you need water for your body function. It helps flush toxins from your organs, carries nutrients to your cells, lubricates your joints, regulates your body temperature and aids digestion of food.
The recommended daily water intake for an adult according to health experts is about 2litres or half a gallon a day.
Below are ways you can make the most of water:
- Flavour your water : You can infuse your water with fruits to give it flavour. Fruits you may combine are cucumber/lime, lemon, orange, and strawberry/mint, or any combination of fruits that suit your taste and/or mood per time.
- Give your water a lift by adding flavor to your ice cube tray. You can make cubes out of your fruits or juice or tea and add the cubes into your water glass.
- Eat more water based food. According to Institute of Medicine statistics, 20 percent of our water intake is derived from food. Fruits and vegetables like cabbage, lettuce, water melon, celery, amongst others. These have more than 90 percent of water
- You can also give your regular glass an extra ounce of flavor with a few drops of your favorite natural juice (no added sugar) e.g Cranberry, apple or pomegranate.
Whatever you do, make sure you add only what gives your body the nutrients it requires. Do not accumulate calories.
